Internet Explorer 8 seems to be better than any previous version of IE. IE8 is very stable and rarely crashes or cause blue screens.

Hey Jonathan - I'm currently in the middle of my switch from XP to Ubuntu. My technical knowledge doesn't even approach yours, and I've been worried that the big bad unix monster is going to pop up at any moment and make it impossible for me to do something simple like plug in my external hard drive. But I've found the ubuntu support site and other message boards extremely helpful and in many cases accessible to a total newbie.

So far I'm really happy with the switch and can't wait til I feel comfortable enough to uninstall Windows for good.

The main reason I switched is that after just two years, XP on my machine has become unusable - excruciating load times, bizarre quirks and errors, and now I can't even connect to the internet, even if I plug into the router physically. I know the machine is still good, so I don't see a reason to buy a new comp. And I completely agree with you on the Mac thing - I resent that brand with a passion. I'm really glad I tried out unix.

Looking forward to hearing more about your switch.

I completely concur with your review of the iPod. The thumb twirl is torture especially if you're looking for a specific song in your playlist. It might be your favorite, but to me doesn't justify a finger cramp.

I'm a huge fan of the Bowery Boys too! As a Manhattan local the history of this overwhelming city fascinates me.

The iPod Touch lets you rate things while they are playing. I haven't checked if it flows it back into the smart playlist on the device yet but I am curios to know.

Plus, I like the touch over my classic nano because of the information appliance aspects.

[...] I am going to skip over firefox and delve right into opera because firefox is even worse than ie in that ctrl+t simply gives me a blank address bar and blank page. No instructions nothing useful. Simple, yes, useful, no. In this case the KIMAC has not been met. [...]
